A Comprehensive Source for Aerospace, Aviation, and Defense Information

Aerospace, aviation, and defense are the most highly regulated and data-intensive industries in the world. The IHS Specs & Standards Service lets you search current and historical government and non-government standards to facilitate research, identify quality control procedures and locate Military Specifications for the composition of bid requests.

Did you know that you can get many of the standards listed below and others in an IHS subscription? As you may know, a subscription to the standards and specifications you need is a cost effective way to save time and money! So if you answer "yes" to any of the following, contact us for further information on an IHS Standards Subscription:

1. Are you struggling to keep your standards library current?
2. Does your company purchase more than $3,000 in standards per year?
3. Do you need automatic updates?
4. Do you have multiple users accessing the same standards?

MMPDS-02 (Replacement for Mil–HDBK-5J)
The Metallic Materials Properties Development and Standardization (MMPDS) is the preeminent source for standardized design values and related design information for metallic materials and structural elements used in aerospace structures and for metallic materials design data acceptable to Government procuring or certification agencies.

National CAD Standard NCS
Improve the efficiency in the design and construction process and reduce costs associated with developing and maintaining individual drawing standards. The NCS 3.1 coordinates the efforts of the building design and construction industry by classifying electronic building design data consistently. This allows streamlined communication among owners and design and construction project teams. The United States National CAD Standard™ (NCS) consists of:
American Institute of Architect's CAD Layer Guidelines
Construction Specification Institute's Uniform Drawing System (Modules 1-8)
Tri-Services Plotting Guidelines (as promulgated by the U.S. Department of Defense CAD/GIS Technology Center)

AV-DATA – Available on Online or on CD-ROM
From overhaul to operations, AV-DATA is specifically suited to meet your aviation needs by providing immediate access to all relevant information from the entire range of domestic and international aviation authorities and agencies.  AV-DATA is the only aviation resource in the world to offer one-stop access to information critical to ensuring worldwide aircraft regulation compliance, safety and airworthiness.

AIA – Aerospace Industries Association of America, Inc.
AIA publications provide engineers, designers and others working for manufacturers and suppliers of  aerospace and national defense systems with information designed to ensure product quality and safety.

SBAC – The Society of British Aerospace Companies Ltd. Accessed through AV-DATA Online
SBAC documents are used by designers and manufacturers in the aerospace industry to specify, design and maintain aerospace systems and components. SBAC covers the whole spectrum of the industry, from airframes and aero-engines to equipment, materials, guided weapons and satellites.  SBAC Standards cover items such as bearings, bolts, clamps, flanges, nuts, pipe connectors, couplings, plugs, pulleys, rivets, screws, sleeves, springs, studs, valves, and much more.

ESDU - Engineering Sciences Data Unit
ESDU International provides validated engineering design data, methods and software for the engineer. These are presented in over 1250 design guides with supporting software and are the result of more than 60 years experience of providing engineers with information, data and techniques for fundamental design and analysis. Endorsed by professional Institutions ESDU data and software form an important part of the design operation of companies large and small throughout the world.

ICAO Standards Service International Civil Aviation Organization
Since 1947 the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has operated as a constituent member of the United Nations.  In this role, ICAO fosters the safe and orderly development of international civil aviation.

JAA - Joint Aviation Authorities
The JAA is an associative body of the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) representing the civil aviation regulatory authorities of a number of European States who have agreed to cooperate in developing and implementing common safety regulatory standards and procedures. This cooperation is intended to provide high and consistent standards of safety and a "level playing field" for competition in Europe. Much emphasis is also placed on harmonizing the JAA regulations with those of the USA.

Military Specifications and Standards
The IHS Military product line offers a variety of specifications and standards solutions to support tasks through the life cycle of government goods and services, from design through procurement, manufacturing, quality control and maintenance

Mil Specs
More than 82,000 active and 387,000 historical military documents are available through the IHS Mil Specs service.

DoD Adopted Standards
COTS initiatives and Acquisition Reform mandate use of commercial off-the-shelf standards and products wherever possible. Industry standards are regularly adopted by the DoD.

Historical Mil Specs
