ATMAC Meeting Calls for ADS-B Collaboration
March 21, 2006
The Air Traffic Management Committee (ATMAC) of the Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics (RTCA) formed a working group dedicated to the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) program at its recent meeting.
An En Route and Oceanic Services executive presented an overview of the ADS-B program, which prompted questions that underscored the need to formalize continued collaboration between the private sector of the aviation community and the FAA.
The committee directed RTCA to establish a working group designed to facilitate ongoing government/industry collaboration for the implementation of ADS-B. The group will report results back to the ATMAC. The group's formation, according to RTCA, signals the intention of the ATMAC to insure that ADS-B investments, schedules and expectations remain aligned, so as to guarantee continued benefits for all involved in the ADS-B decision-making process.
The ATMAC meeting featured three other presentations:
- An FAA budget status report.
- Work being performed by the Requirements and Planning Work Group (R&P WG).
- Air Traffic Organization (ATO) metrics.
