Eurocontrol announced that the Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre (MUAC) was formally certified as compliant with European Community (EC) requirements for the provision of air navigation services.
The certificate was granted to the MUAC after a documentation review and comprehensive audits by the Transport and Water Management Inspectorate (Inspectie Verkeer en Waterstaat), which verified working methods, processes, skills and competences in various key areas.
National aviation authorities of Belgium, Germany and Luxembourg also approved the certification.
Following Commission Regulation (EC) No. 2096/2005 laying down common requirements for the provision of air navigation services (commonly referred to as the "Common Requirements" regulation), all air navigation service providers in the EC must demonstrate that they operate in compliance with the standards set out in the European regulation.
The "Common Requirements" regulation is part of the Single European Sky legislative package - Regulations (EC) 549/2004, 550/2004, 551/2004, 552/2004 and 2096/2005 - which aims to reform the European Air Traffic Management system and improve its overall performance.
