Weapon Effectiveness of Infantry Rifle Systems: Initial Investigation
Paulissen, J. J. M.; Huisjes, H.; Bakema, G. H.; April 2005; 78 pp.; In English; Original contains color illustrations Contract(s)/Grant(s): A04/KL4/UV; TNO Proj. 014.16188.01.01 Report No.(s): TD2005-0022; DV2 2005-A22; Copyright; Avail: Other Sources
The Royal Netherlands Army (RNLA) is the primary user of light infantry weapons in the Dutch defence forces. At present, the RNLA infantry employs the Diemaco semi- automatic rifle (C7, C7A I and CS). The Diemaco is due for replacement by the year 2015. The Soldier Modernization Office (SMO) of the RNLA is writing an initial policy document for the future replacement of the Diemaco rifle.
At this point it is possible that the successor to the Diemaco may encompass more than one new weapon system. In fact, it is possible that more weapon systems in the current infantry weaponry will be replaced by one or more new systems. In this initial stage there are no established technical requirements for the future infantry weapon. Also, the operational conditions during which an adequate performance is required are subject to discussion. The SMO assigned TlvO to perform a study into a limited number of technical aspects, in order to get a first impression of the relevant requirement issues and possibilities for future procurement. In this stage it is important to establish the influence of selected weapon characteristics on the weapon effectiveness. Derived from text
