FAA Approves Aerosonic's Digital Altimeter
September 27, 2005
Precision aircraft instrument supplier Aerosonic Corp. received U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Technical Standard Order (TSO) approval for its new digital altimeter.
The instrument is designed to improve accuracy and reliability using digital technology, rather than mechanical devices, Aerosonic said.
The sensor-based technology makes the digital altimeter appropriate for use with a variety of aircraft, according to Aerosonic, which supplies precision flight products for military and commercial aircraft.
The instrument's TSO approval green lights the altimeter's use on civil aircraft, which accounts for 21.5% of aerospace sales, according to the Aerospace Research Center.
The approval also gives Aerosonic the ability to begin offering the instrument commercially throughout the civil aircraft market.
