ASTM Int'l Homeland Security Committee Focuses on Operational Equipment

The ASTM International Committee E54 on Homeland Security Applications created a new subcommittee (E54.08 on Operational Equipment) to develop standards based on operational equipment used in response to chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive (CBRNE) incidents, as well as related search and rescue missions.

A host of equipment will fall under the subcommittee's jurisdiction, including:

  • Specialized tools.
  • Robotics.
  • Specialized law enforcement equipment.
  • Explosives mitigation and containment equipment.
  • Search and rescue equipment.
  • Material handling.
  • Related equipment.

Phil Mattson is chair of the new subcommittee, which will be tasked with identifying gaps and developing standards and related documents.

Subcommittee E54.08 is looking for interested parties to participate in the group, which will hold its first meeting in February.
