AIA Launches Defense Trade Information Web Site
November 23, 2005
The U.S. Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) unveiled a central resource on foreign trade in U.S. defense products.
The Defense Trade Resources web site was designed as a primer on defense trade resources and focuses on export controls, "buy American" policies and export financing.
The AIA web site, according to the association, was created for journalists, congressional staff members, issue advocates and individuals seeking information on foreign trade of defense items.
The clearinghouse features white papers, a glossary, a Q&A section and acronym lists.
Foreign governments purchased more than $9 billion worth of defense items in 2004, lifting aerospace to the largest single positive foreign trade balance in the U.S. economy at $31 billion, according to AIA.
Foreign defense trade, added the group, also helps interoperability with U.S. allies on the battlefield and often keeps production lines open in between U.S. Department of Defense purchases.
