Airbus Integrates Electronic Charts Into A380 Onboard Information System
September 2, 2005
Lufthansa Systems said its electronic airport and route charts were integrated by Airbus into the A380's onboard information system (OIS). Electronic charting interfaced with an OIS can enhance both flight safety and efficiency, said Lufthansa Systems.
The Lufthansa Systems' Lido eRouteManual integrated with the OIS will be an option for Airbus customers. Airbus and Lufthansa Systems see the OIS with electronic chart capabilities as presenting a worldwide data set of airport and en route aeronautical information; detailed taxi, departure and approach charts; and more. The eRouteManual can be used with all Airbus EFBs (electronic flight bags).
Lufthansa Systems noted that because eRouteManual maps are electronic and interfaced with the aircraft, they can also adjust in relation to the aircraft, so that the most relevant information is presented conveniently. If something unanticipated is needed, such as a change of runway, a go-around leading to an alternate, or another unplanned situation, the necessary new information can be accessed quickly and easily by pilots.
Lido's database-driven chart production allows functionalities such as single-procedure presentation for standard instrument departures and arrivals, chart presentations that are always to scale and minimum sector altitude visualization.
In addition, the eRouteManual allows access to all general textual information, such as specific country regulations or airport operating information.
