Title
Generic Specification for Special-Use Electromechanical Switches of Certified Quality
Electronic Components, Assemblies & Materials Association
Publication Date:
Oct 1, 2000
Scope:
This generic specification relates to special-use electromechanical
switches of certified quality. Switches covered by this specification:
a) are devices that open, close, or change the connection of a circuit
by the mechanical motion of conducting parts (contacts).
b) have a maximum rated voltage of 600 volts.
c) have a maximum rated current of 63 amperes.
This generic specification does not include keyboards or keypads that
are intended for use in information-handling equipment.
Switch families shall be described in sectional specifications that will
reference this generic specification. Blank detail specifications, from
which a detail specification may be developed by filling in the relevant
performance data, will reference the applicable sectional specification.
In lieu of blank detail specifications, the sectional specification may
provide instructions for the preparation of detail specifications.
However, contrary to the Basic Rules and Rules of procedure of the NECQ
System, this generic specification allows the requirements of the
Sectional, Blank Detail, and/or Detail Specifications associated with it
to be either more severe or less severe than the requirements of this
specification. It also allows a manufacturer to provide a Supplier
Declaration of Conformity.
Object
The object of this generic specification is to establish a uniform
quality assessment system, a uniform qualification test sequence, and a
minimum group of tests for qualification or capability approval
inspection, and to provide consistency in sectional specifications for
electromechanical switches by specifying the terminology, symbols, test
methods and other necessary information.
It is also the object of allowing this specification to be used as a
means of providing a Supplier Declaration of Conformity where, for
whatever reason, third party certification is not appropriate.
