Scope:
This standard applies to overhead and gantry cranes (including
top running monorail, underhung, and jib cranes) mobile cranes,
derricks, hoists, winches, special hoist supported personnel
lifting devices, hydra-sets, load measuring devices, hooks, slings
and rigging, mobile aerial platforms, powered industrial trucks,
and jacks. This document does not include coverage for front-end
loaders and elevators.
Purpose. This standard establishes NASA's minimum
requirements for the design, testing, inspection, maintenance,
personnel certification, and operation of lifting devices and
equipment (LDE) described in paragraph 1.1.
