Scope:

These requirements cover hose and hose assemblies, including vapor recovery hose and assemblies, for use on dispensing devices for flammable liquids. For the purpose of this Standard flammable liquids are gasoline and diesel fuel. The term "gasoline" includes gasoline with small amounts of additives such as detergents, solvents for detergents, and anti-icing chemicals and gasoline with up to 15 percent ethanol or methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE).

Hose assemblies are intended for use in accordance with the Automotive and Marine Service Station Code of National Fire Protection Association, NFPA 30A, in maximum lengths of 18 ft (5.5 m).

These requirements cover hose used on dispensing devices for fuels not covered in 1.1 when found by investigation to have the required resistance to these fuels.

These requirements cover hose and hose assemblies (hose with couplings attached) in sizes up to and including 1-1/2 inches (38.1 mm).

Hose for conveying liquid fuel is intended for use at a maximum working pressure of 50 psig (345 kPa). Hose for conveying vapors of fuel is intended for use at a maximum working pressure of 0.5 psig (3.4 kPa), including slight negative pressures from vapor assist systems.

These requirements cover hose and hose assemblies for use at temperatures down to minus 40°C (minus 40°F) or minus 54°C (minus 65°F).

These requirements do not cover hose or hose assemblies, intended for use in automotive vehicles or in confined areas, except for locations inside the housings of dispensing devices complying with the Standard For Power-Operated Dispensing Devices For Petroleum Products, UL 87.

A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those covered by the requirements in this Standard, and that involves a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons shall be evaluated using the appropriate additional component and end-product requirements to determine that the level of safety as originally anticipated by the intent of this Standard is maintained. A product whose features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems conflict with specific requirements or provisions of this Standard shall not be judged to comply with this Standard. Where appropriate, revision of requirements shall be proposed and adopted in conformance with the methods employed for development, revision, and implementation of this Standard.
