Scope:

This specification covers a system consisting of a truck and detachable body(s) for the loading, compacting, storing, transporting, and discharging of refuse and other materials. A subsystem is also covered, consisting of a stationary compactor and a detachable body designed to mate with the stationary compactor. The truck, detachable body(s) and stationary compactor units may be ordered as a system or as individual units to supplement an existing system. The truck covered by this specification is diesel engine driven, six-wheel, four-wheel drive, with a minimum gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 51,000 pounds, mounting a tilt-frame unit and hydraulic system for loading, transporting, and unloading the detachable body. The bodies covered by this specification are specifically designed for use with the truck and tilt-frame unit. In addition, one body is specifically designed for attachment to the stationary compactor to receive refuse and other material during the compaction cycle of the stationary compactor. Items procured under this specification are commercially designed and are warranted by the manufacturer as specified in the acquisition documents. Beneficial comments (recommendations, additions, deletions) and any pertinent data which maybe of use in improving this document should be addressed to: US Army Tank-Automotive Command, ATTN: AMSTA-UED, Warren, MI 48397-5000, by using the self-addressed Standardization Document Improvement Proposal (DD Form 1426) appearing at the end of this document or by letter.

The detachable bodies and stationary compactors shall be of the following types and sizes, as specified (see 6.2):

    Type A                    - Cargo, open top
      Size 8                    - 8 cubic yards
      Size 15                   - 15 cubic yards
      Size 20                   - 20 cubic yards
      Size 30                   - 30 cubic yards
      Size 40                   - 40 cubic yards

    Type B                    - Cargo, closed top
      Size 30                   - 30 cubic yards
      Size 40                   - 40 cubic yards

    Type C                    - Compaction, short stroke (not less than 33
                                cubic yards)

    Type E                    - Self loading and compaction (not less than
                                30 cubic yards)

    Type F                    - Cargo, closed top, for use with stationary
                                compactors (not less than 42.5 cubic yards)

    Type G                    - Stationary compactor
      Size 1.5                  - 1.5 cubic yards
      Size 4                    - 4 cubic yards
