SAE AMS 2470M Document Information:
Title
Anodic Treatment of Aluminum Alloys Chromic Acid Process
SAE International
Publication Date:
Apr 1, 2007
Scope:
Purpose
This specification establishes the requirements for anodic
coatings on aluminum alloys.
Application
This process has been used typically to increase corrosion
resistance and to provide surfaces which will promote adherence of
paint and other organic finishes, and has been found useful for
assemblies which have faying surfaces and/or which may trap
electrolyte, but usage is not limited to such applications.
This process is primarily applicable to aluminum and aluminum
alloy parts which have nominal copper content not greater than 5%
by weight or total nominal alloy content not greater than 7.5% by
weight, AMS 2471 being recommended for parts having higher alloy
content. Coating may be dyed if specified, but AMS 2472 is
recommended where a colored finish is required.
Safety - Hazardous Materials
While the materials, methods, applications, and processes
described or referenced in this specification may involve the use
of hazardous materials, this specification does not address the
hazards which may be involved in such use. It is the sole
responsibility of the user to ensure familiarity with the safe and
proper use of any hazardous materials and to take necessary
precautionary measure to ensure the health and safety of all
personnel involved.
